| Q. |
I
don't want to pay $45.00 for Membership. I want you
to make this a free site - there's tons of them out there,
why aren't you? |
| A. |
Questions
for you:
- When you
go to a Halter Clinic or a lesson with a Trainer - is
it free?
- Was the
Halter you chose for showing free?
- Would
you buy a video on Training/Conditioning Halter Horses?
- Would
you buy a series of Books on Training/Conditioning Halter
Horses?
- Do you
know the costs involved in running a site like this?
Did you answer
NO to more than one of these questions? If so, just
because this is an internet site why should the services
be free?
How much
do you pay for each lesson or Clinic - add it up
for a year and then write back and tell us that $45.00/year
is more than what you paid for that year. You can
be a member or choose not to be - the choice, is entirely
yours - no one is forcing you to belong. If you don't
want to belong - please don't ask the question - the purpose
and mission of this site are clearly stated on the main
page (in case you missed reading it).
It is amazing
how many people want something for nothing - if this site
wasn't such a valuable service, there wouldn't be anybody
who wanted to join for free, now would there?
As for making
this a free site - who will pay for the server space we
use, the maintenance, update fees, etc.? Let me ask
you this - do you work? Do you get paid for your work?
Sure, there's
tons of free sites out there - but do they have professionals
giving advice and help at the level that this site has?
NO.
I myself
have shown Halter and Nov. Am. Showmanship and have won
a few times! Should I and others like me become online
speakers at this site in order to make it free? Do
you know me? Have I been to the Congress or various
breed World Shows and placed in the top 3? Would you
want me to give you advice?
I can
give you advice for free, if you want me to - but I don't
know if you'll get results - I've only had 2 horses to practice
with and I only show locally.
If we make
this a "free site" - how much are you willing
to pay to help sponsor it?
|
| Q. |
Boy,
you were really blunt in answering the above question - how
come? |
| A. |
Because
people don't read and are under the false impression that
everything should be free just because it's on the internet
or because they want it to be. You wouldn't believe
some of the rude questions I've received.
I am glad
we have a paid membership, because some of the people who
have wanted to have a free membership so they can join only
wanted to bash Halter Horses and the people who train, breed
and exhibit them - having paid memberships helps to alleviate
the "triflers" and it means that they're serious
about wanting to learn. Would you want those type
of people giving you advice or helping you out?

| Q. |
Why
can't I find information on Reining horses on this site? |
| A. |
That's
because this site is strictly dedicated to the promotion of
Halter Horses.
|
| Q. |
I
posted an ad for my Western Pleasure horse and it didn't show
up, how come? |
| A. |
Again,
this site is strictly dedicated to Halter Horses and related
equipment, businesses or services only.
|
| Q. |
How
come you have a paid Membership? What's it for? |
| A. |
The
monies from your paid Membership go towards paying for this
site, which cost $$ to build, plus paying for the space it
takes up, together with the hours and hours that go into maintaining
a site of this size. The monies are also used for external
advertising purposes, paying guest speakers for the chatroom
and e-mail list, as well as for purchasing various programs
necessary to run this site. We did think about having
different parts of the site located on various *free webspace
servers*, but along with freebies, there's always a catch
and we didn't want to be stuck with any unnecessary banner
ads, etc. that come with the freebies. Also, several
of our scripts have to be run out of our own cgi-bin, in order
to be assured that they will work consistently. On the
free webspace sites, we would have to share the cgi-bin and
that's just not feasible for what we're trying to accomplish.
It would really be nice to have this site be completely free,
but to be completely honest, nothing this good could be run
for free.

| Q. |
What
do I get for becoming a member of TheHalterHorse.com? |
| A. |
You

Horse enthusiasts and some of today's top Trainers.
Our ChatRooms will occasionally feature guest speakers and
moderators, who are leading the nation in today's Halter Horse
industry.

the regular announcement e-mail list available on the main
page of this site), where your questions will be answered
by some of today's top professionals in the Halter Horse
industry, such as: Roy Donn, Luke Castle, Kathy Smallwood,
Laurie Takoff and Carl Brown!
Starting in
2000, we will also be offering Video critiquing for you
and your horse!! Details on this new addition for
our Members is available on the Join page, on the menu to
the left.

| Q. |
I'm
a Trainer and I want to Advertising Rates and don't have
a website or e-mail, can I advertise here? |
| A. |
Sure,
your ad will be one without the e-mail or URL link.
|
| Q. |
I
don't have a website, but I want one - will you make me one? |
| A. |
We
sure can! You can have your own separate website, with
your own domain name or one hosted off of TheHalterHorse.com
- the choice is yours!
|
| Q. |
What
are the Community Sites all about? |
| A. |
The
Community Sites are sites designed by us or your own existing
site, which will be listed on the main page, with a text link
back to your site. Having a Community Site entitles
you to not only being on that list for all to see, but you
also get one month's banner advertising on the main page,
as well!
|
| Q. |
I
got to your site and only part of it loaded and it said it
was "done", how come? Where did it go? Are you
having problems? |
| A. |
These
are very common questions from those of us who haven't surfed
the 'net for very long - we know, we have asked the same questions.
:)
When a site
only partially loads, it simply means that:
- there's
a lot of traffic on the Internet, causing a traffic jam
- your computer
may have slowed down due to not enough RAM and may need
to be rebooted
- your server
that provides you with access to the Internet has slowed
down to heavy traffic
- the server
where the website is located is experiencing a traffic
jam, due to heavy traffic
|
| Q. |
I
got to your site and I can't see the animated banner on the
top frame of the site - someone told me it was there, but
I just can't see it, how come? |
| A. |
Many
of the older versions of Netscape's Navigator (now called
Communicator) and Internet Explorer don't allow for view animations.
You should upgrade your browser by going to the Netscape site
or to the Microsoft site.
|
| Q. |
Help!
I can't see the yellow print on some of the pages - against
the white background, it's almost invisible! What's
the problem here? I use AOL. |
| A. |
Unfortunately,
AOL has a big problem, not only with viewing tables, but also
with coloured tables. You just need to use Internet
Explorer, which comes bundled with Windows. All places
on the website that have yellow/gold text are inside of dark
coloured tables and are visible to the vast majority of surfers
out there. You are in the 3% range of people who have
an older version of the AOL browser. You should upgrade
to Netscape's Communicator program or to Microsoft's Internet
Explorer.
